Step 1. Install Windows Movie Maker - Free download Windows Movie Maker. Then install the software on your computer.
Step 2. Import video file to Windows Movie Maker
- Import video from digital video camera - Connect the DV camera to your computer and turned on in playback mode. In Windows Movie Maker, click File ->Import from Digital Video Camera to add your dv to the program.
- Load existed video files to the program - Click File -> Import Media Items to find the video files on your computer and import them to the app.
Step 3. Customize your video(Optional)
- Split & Merge - The Windows Movie Maker offers video splitting and merging, you can split a video into some clips, and merge video clips into one.
- Trim parts of a video clip - You can make a new start and/or end trim point.

- Creat video clips - Windows Movie Maker creates clips in different ways, depending on the clip's source. If the source clip is from a digital video camera, the maker creates clips that are based on the time stamps that the DV camera inserts when the source video is originally recorded, as well as significant frame changes in the video. In the Contents pane, select the video clip for which you want to create clips. Click Tools -> Create Clips to creat your video clips.
Step 4. Transitions and effects
- Add transitions for your video - Transition controls how your movie plays from one video clip or picture to the next. You can add a transition between two video clips, or titles in any combination on the storyboard/timeline.
